Leslie Allyn
Leslie Allyn paints whimsical designs in wild colors and organic line, using unique techniques in watercolor and black ink pen. The paintings and their distinctive style are a clever combination of the ethereal and the mundane, inspired by dreams, nature, contemplation, and fleeting moments.
[Gallery not found]Leslie’s tiny paintings have a compelling dreamlike intimacy, and her larger works invite contemplation and humor. The images carry a sense of importance, spirit, and growth, no matter their size. Most of the paintings are created spontaneously, without preplanning, with emphasis on color, shape, and organic form. Light, space, and playfulness are also considerably important.
Leslie frames her own work, using high quality archival materials and methods, including cotton rag mat board, acid-free hinging tapes, and UV protective glass. She almost exclusively uses white mats with thin black frames.
Leslie Allyn received her BFA from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, in 1996. Since then, she has worked as a picture framer and potter’s assistant, as well as exhibiting her paintings around Charlottesville and Virginia, and as far away as New York. Her work is included in collections of art lovers all over the world.
C’ville Arts Gallery displays framed originals, as well as prints, blank greeting cards, magnets, and calendars. Pendants of art prints set between glass are the newest addition to her handiwork.
Leslie aspires to live and work full-time as an artist, exhibiting and working at every opportunity. She is currently working on a picture book, and also paints in oil on canvas. For more information, to see more images, or to contact Leslie Allyn, see www.leslieallyn.com
