Steve Fischer

My creations stem from the joy of working with my hands and a love of wood. While only beginning on this journey with hand-turned and hand carved art of recent years, my background with wood started many years ago in my former career as an orchestral repair technician servicing, adjusting and rebuilding violins, violas, cellos and string basses. It is there that I honed my skill in various finishes that I have carefully carried over to the art objects that I create today using my lathe and other tools that were handed down to me from my father and grandfather.

My first and foremost love is turning pieces on a lathe. I started to turn holiday ornaments nearly five years ago and these are still a staple in my inventory. I grew into bowls and then started to add hand carved spoons and Spirit Houses. In 2010 my wife and I moved to the Shenandoah Valley and started The WoodArt Studio.

I currently am a member of the Association of Woodturners of America and the Woodturners of the Virginias. You can purchase any of our pieces from C’Ville Arts, OASIS Art & Craft Gallery, or through us at the Harrisonburg Farmer’s Market. Please follow us at our blog/website: The WoodArt Studio or on Facebook.

Whether it is wood from locally grown trees or those of a more exotic nature in every exclusive piece you will find a bit of my spirit bursting through.
