Please join us between 2:30-4:30 on Sunday, December 22nd, for Susan McCulley’s signing of her book, Buddha Cat: Learning Awareness, Presence & Self-Care from a Teacher Who Sometimes Barfs on the Bed.
Susan McCulley is an artist, author, illustrator and teacher. She creates mixed media art woven with words to invite delight and insight, and inspire creative connection. Her simple, playful illustrations encourage mindfulness, curiosity and appreciation for everyday wonders.
Her first book, Buddha Cat: Learning Awareness, Presence & Self-Care from a Teacher Who Sometimes Barfs on the Bed,
is a humorous reminder of priorities and perspective. She wrote it when
the world felt crazy and frightening, as a reminder to herself (and
everyone) that skillful sanity is often sitting in our lap. The
collection of two dozen color illustrations of Phoenix the Buddha Cat
and her antics is a refreshing, insightful look at mindfulness and
what’s really important.
Thanks, Emily, for having Mom send your photo on our mosaic couch. Emily’s family are friends, happy to see that lovely girl and her beautiful dress on our loveseat!
Pals Gracie and Lynn, both of Charlottesville, stopped by for a photo today. Great pic, ladies; thanks for sending!
These posts always bring us joy, we are thrilled that our bench made you smile, Eliza and Josie!
The note we received with the photo reads: “Eliza & Josie loved the Mosaic bench! We are in town to visit Monticello since they’ve been studying Thomas Jefferson at school. They attend Sunrise Valley ES in Reston, VA and the school mascot is the sun, so this piece of art was particularly fun for them. Thank you!”
We love hearing from friends who enjoy our ‘Seat of Harmony’. Here’s a note from some weekend visitors…
“We fell in love with Cville!
This was our first visit; we drove up from S.C.
This is Kevin and Luna!
We will be back soon!
C’ville Arts Gallery, located on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, is busting at the seams with the magic of handmade gift items for the holidays. Jewelers, potters, fabric artists, painters, wood crafters, and all manner of artists working with glass, photography and more…
the gallery is brimming with the joy of the season.
C’ville Arts Gallery: An Artists Cooperative, began well over a 15 years ago with the vision of a handful of craftspeople who sought a seasonal venue from which to sell their art. The artists moved from space to space for each of several holiday seasons and called themselves “Transient Crafters”. With each passing season, the success of the venture increased, along with the size of our membership.
In 2000, with membership growing, the co-op secured their current, permanent location near the Central Place on the pedestrian mall Downtown. As the 10-year anniversary of the first seasonal shop approached in 2007, they decided it was time for a new name that better reflected the focus of the gallery and their place in the community. And so they became C’ville Arts: A Cooperative Gallery.
Today, the C’ville Arts Gallery co-operative is composed of between 50-60 artists… all living in Virginia and each one working in different media, types of art and craft. The artists run the Gallery themselves (even the one paid administrator is an artist), so each time you visit, you can meet and talk with the very artists whose work you are seeing in the shop.
During the holidays, the Gallery is a wonderful place to be… full of color, texture, music, and joy. Come see what new the Gallery holds for the holidays… the magic continues.
