C’ville Arts Cooperative Gallery is presenting the wonderful, whimsical jewelry of Stephen Dalton. He will be at the opening on Friday, August 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. during the Historic Downtown Mall’s First Friday event.

Stephen Dalton, of Half-Baked Ideas Jewelry, looks to nature to create his whimsical, mixed-media designs.   This summer he has found inspiration in the works of Modernists, such as Mondrian, Charlie Harper, and plastic jewelry designer, Lea Stein.  As always, Stephen uses lots of color and bold design in his jewelry.   His new work features more layering and dimension from building with individual pieces of paper, while keeping the jewelry lightweight.   The end result is wearable art that is fun, Daturra 2810modern, and recognizes artists from another era.

Stephen has made paper and epoxy jewelry full time for more than twenty years, and his range is broad.  The deep finish he achieves is a painstaking three-day process.  From animals, like cats and dragonflies, to abstract pieces and Christmas jewelry, his unique process and aesthetic gives him freedom to have fun.  His Christmas jewelry is featured in “Christmas Pins, Past and Present”, a collectible jewelry book by Jill Gallina.  His pieces consist of lightweight pins, pendants, necklaces, and Daturra 2812earrings that include metallic papers, beads, vintage stones, marbled paper, and found objects.
