Gary Woods
Gary has been working wood for over 30 years. What began as a hobby making blanket chests and rocking horses for family members then became part of his home improvement business, offering clients custom built-ins, mantles, tables, and entertainment centers. Wanting fine furniture for his own home, Gary has custom-made most of the furnishings enjoyed by his wife Kristi and their two daughters.
Now retired from the home improvement business, Gary enjoys trying new ideas and is ever learning new techniques. He finds inspiration in geometric shapes and the graceful lines of Asian furniture. Not wanting any piece of wood to go to waste, Gary transforms would-be scraps into beautiful and affordable gifts. Currently he creates a wide range of bud vases, ikebanas, and wooden boxes using mostly Virginia hardwoods such as maple, cherry and walnut. His work is fresh and modern yet highlights the comfortable warmth of wood. Each handcrafted piece exemplifies his love of functional art and contemporary design.
In addition to C’ville Arts, Gary’s work is available at the following galleries:
Earth, Fire, and Spirit Pottery – Lexington, VA

Matrix Gallery – Blacksburg, VA
