Life is a journey from darkness to light. Perhaps that’s why I select subject with sharp
light and dark contrast, often partially in the shadows. It’s what we can’t see that makes
a painting interesting.
Drawn to the arts (art and music) from an early age, I excelled at both. After high
school, I studied music at Westminster College (PA), Bible and Art at Taylor University
(IN), Design at Perdue University (IN), and Painting at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine
Art (PA).
My technique is mixed media consisting of acrylic paint on recycled canvas, bonded
tissue paper, and ink drawing. It developed by accident to repair a drawing error white a
PAFA and I resurrected it after being diagnosed with GBS and CIDP in 1997, resulting
in total peripheral neuropathy. The process makes many of my decisions for me and
guides my hand and brush strokes. I am grateful to still be able to create!
My art has appeared in group and solo shows nationwide and resides in private
corporate collections coast to coast. My male figurative work was recently featured in a
fine art magazine published in Berlin, Germany. A recent painting of Poplar Forest was
purchased to be exhibited in the newly renovated Bedford Visitors Center.
My wife, Patti, and I now reside in beautiful Lynchburg, VA after 32 years in the western
suburbs of Philadelphia. We are blessed to have 3 wonderful children and 4 grandchildren.
