C’ville Arts Features – “Beyond the Burn” ~ During October

C’ville Arts is excited to feature original designs by our talented pyrographer, Genevieve Story, during the month of October. She will be at the gallery to share her inspiring new collection on October 6th, from 5 to 7 p.m. during the Historic Downtown Mall’s First Friday event.

Pyrography is a term that literally means “writing with fire”, the free-handed art of decorating leather or wood with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated metal object. Genevieve has mastered her skills with a level of excellence rarely found in the burning world. Her amazing portfolio is filled with wildlife, plants and creatures portrayed with a certain type of closeness, a reassuring magic, charming the hearts of her audiences everywhere.

In this show, Genevieve explores new horizons using her pyrography combined with digital techniques to allow her creativity to extend beyond the burn. Though she started her artistic journey applying pyrography to leather items, namely journals and bookmarks, she is ramping up production and taking her work to the next level. Her print items now include framed and matted prints, decks of playing cards, and sweet baby onesies! Her business partner (and brother-in-law) Peter Yencken is also busy creating functional items to which she can apply her designs, including knives with leather sheaths, wood coasters, leather & wood jar handles, and his new beautifully woven wood market baskets.
