C’ville Arts is happy to announce Rucha Shevade, a gifted designer who specializes in creating mandalas will be our featured artist for the month of May. She will be at the gallery to share her latest collection on May 3, from 5 – 7 p.m. during the Historic Downtown Mall’s First Friday celebration.
Inspired by the elegant patterns found in the natural world, Rucha relies on familiar shapes for her compositions easily falling into a meditative place while she works. Her repetitive mark making resembles a visual mantra combining balance and symmetry with movement and color. Submerging herself in the process rejuvenates her soul and helps her creativity blossom.
Traditionally, mandala is a word meaning “circle”; a geometric design or pattern that represents the cosmos or deities in various heavenly worlds, symbolizing balance, peace, and healing in the universe. It’s widely believed everything is connected, from snowflakes to supernovas we are connected by a force more durable than anything and some believe it’s “divine” by design. Mandalas are a symbol of the universe in its ideal form, its creation signifies a transformation from a universe of suffering into one of joy.
Rucha’s work has a soothing presence and can help promote mindfulness and balance in life. She uses ink on paper most of the time, but also enjoys exploring other materials like watercolors, gouache and acrylics adding a dance of color to her rhythmic designs. Rucha creates originals, prints, keychains, coasters, bags, bookmarks, magnets and so much more. Her audience gravitates naturally to her work, whether you’re finding stories in some or getting lost in the amazing details of others, her mandalas are magic – come and enjoy the show!
